I giggle throughout the day. 


A main source of entertainment is my mind and its relationship with time. I am amused by the human tendency to feel pressure inside to get something done on the outside, to have everything just the way you want it and more of it. 

I see through negative tendencies like they are the tenacious tentacles of a greedy but imaginary octopus trying to grab us, overwhelm us, and eat us whole. These fake tentacles have powerful suction cups that attach and try to pull us away from a healthy routine.

By some miracle and lots of meditating, I have befriended this mental octopus, this insatiable appetite for more. I have turned it onto itself. I use its immense power and tenacity to become attached to positive tendencies, like taking good care of myself, going to bed early, helping others and being a servant of God.

Since the funny octopus of desire is chasing its own tail, I am free to enjoy life thoroughly. 

I wake up laughing. I go to sleep laughing. I giggle throughout the day.

Experiment

For the next month, after you wake up in the morning, softly giggle. Set a timer to ring every half an hour. When it goes off, walk around and laugh for a few minutes. If it's not appropriate to laugh out loud, at least smile or quietly giggle. If you can't walk around, then wiggle and giggle.

  • I’d pulled some muscles in my left leg and hip during a Yoga class, and was hobbling around in pain for the past week. Nothing helped me shift out of my “poor me” gloomy mood that was making everything worse, until I tried “wiggling and giggling” after reading your blog. It really helped! As I kept gigging and moving the parts of my body that I easily could, I relaxed into an expansive, inner space where I felt some natural joy, and was less aware of the pain. Also I really giggled at the yoga-like postures the cute kitty was doing naturally, in your accompanying photos, just like my kitties. Thanks so much Suzanne, I’ll remember to “wiggle and giggle” when I need to lighten up!
